When you have back pain it can be of two type, one of them is chronic back pain and this is because the pain stays for long periods. (over three months) and is recurrent. This type of back pain is progressive, this means it only becomes stronger as time passes.

What Causes Chronic Back Pain

Determining a single cause of chronic back pain can be very hard, as this is a condition that starts little by little, however doctors agree that there are certain contributing factors to this pain:

Sitting posture. A wrong sitting posture will increase tension in the back muscles and shoulders. Whenever you are sitting, you should try to keep the back aligned.

Sitting for long periods of time. If you are in a job that requires you to sit a lot of time, stand from time to time and take little walks to prevent future chronic back pain problems. These walks will help relieve the tension on the muscles and allow blood circulation.

Smoking. Yes, it is also bad for your spine because it accelerates the degeneration of the disks.

Excess weight. This is major back pain cause specially in America where the obesity has skyrocketed during the recent years. The more weight yo have, the more weight (and tension) your spine has to bear.

Lifting heavy objects. Another common cause of back pain. If your muscles are not prepared to lift heavy objects you will have back pain.

Dealing With Chronic Back Pain

Chronic back pain can be relieved by exercising. Exercise that helps strengthening the back muscles and hamstrings include running, cycling, swimming. These can be a major help on your recovery. Doctors also recommend that you don't rest for too long. Instead, resume normal activity as soon as possible.

Sometimes over-the-counter medication can help managing back pain. It has been found out that the products containing ibuprofen of great help.
