Acute Back Pain

Back pain can be of two types: chronic and acute. When we talk about acute back pain we refer to the one the appears suddenly and last for a period of around 4 weeks. It has nothing to do with the severity of the pain, in fact, chronic back pain (progressive and lasts for a long time) can be softer. It is important that if acute back pain is not properly treated it can develop into chronic back pain.

The cause of an acute back pain is often by an injury or a strain – such as trying to lift heavy objects with a wrong posture or a wrong movement while playing sports.

Treating Acute Back Pain

When tackling the problem of acute back pain, first you must determine the severity and causes. This will let you know if you can just let the pain pass or if you actually need help from a doctor.

When determining the cause, know that it can be not related to your spine. There are certain conditions that bring back pain such as kidney infections. If this happens another symptoms may appear along with back pain.

Acute Back Pain Relief

If you notice this pain is nothing serious, or is not a result from an accident, you can take immediate action to relieve the pain. First, you might want to rest to shake tension off your back muscles. This is done by lying on your back to put away any gravitational related stress on your spine, then lifting the knees and resting the feet on a chair and stool.

This must be done for not more than two days. If rest is prolonged, it will weaken the muscles and could lead to developing chronic back pain problems. Just rest and every hour or so try to get up and walk. Exercise is great to recover the back.
